Singer Sean Keane is the featured artist on Saturday 27th June for the Folk and Variety Club in Bunratty. Seán, from County Galway, was once described as the `greatest musical find of the 90`s` by `The London Independent`. Traditional Irish, folk and even country and blues songs all lend themselves to his unique style and unforgettable voice. Seán learned the sean-nós style of singing from his mother and his aunts. He is an accomplished whistle, flute, uilleann pipes and bodhraun player. `A Portrait`, a collection of Seán`s songs, is a multi-platinum Irish seller. All of his solo albums are platinum sellers and remain in constant demand.
This will be the second of the club’s concerts to be held at the Corn Barn in the Folk Park at Bunratty. Last Wednesday the first concert featured Mike Hanrahan, Kieran Hanrahan and Tommy Hayes. The trio, all former members of Stocktons Wing delighted the audience for over 2 hours. The performers were as delighted as the audience as on more than one occasion Kieran, Mike and Tommy remarked on the fabulous venue. Kieran described it as “the world’s best kept secret” and added “I hope that now the now the secret is out word will spread far and wide”.
The series is a joint venture between Shannon Heritage and Ennis based Production 63 and following Wednesday’s event John Ruddle, Chief Executive of Shannon Heritage said “this was a great success for us. We were sure that there was a local market looking for quality and affordable entertainment and we were delighted to welcome people this evening that have never visited the Folk Park before. We’ve a lot to offer all markets and these concerts showcase our facilities along with delivering a great night out”.
There is significant interest in the remaining five concerts and according to Production 63’s Ger Sweeney “the interest shown in these gigs demonstrates that when you have the right mix of a great venue, affordable ticket price and world class entertainers it’s exactly the right mix for audiences. Our next concert with Sean Keane is going to be a mighty night. He’s bringing Sean Regan and Pat Ryan with him on the night. Sean is an amazing entertainer who continues to delight audiences all over the world with his live performances and recorded work. He tours regularly with his band in Ireland, Austria, Germany, the US and Canada as well as appearing at major festivals world-wide. He has just finished touring with his Scattering show which received a huge welcome in many venues across Ireland and beyond. Next Saturday night will be special at the Folk and Variety Club for sure”.
